Su fotografía dio la vuelta al mundo y su historia fue contada en todos los idiomas. El 'hombre del piano', a quien se encontró trajeado y empapado el pasado mes de abril en una playa inglesa, ha roto su silencio después de cuatro meses ingresado en un hospital del Reino Unido, del que ya ha sido dado de alta.
Ha confesado al personal del centro que es alemán, que había estado trabajando en París y que, tras perder su empleo, decidió viajar al Reino Unido. El joven, de 20 años, pretendía suicidarse cuando fue recogido por la Policía en la costa del condado de Kent.
Poco después de haber sido ingresado y como no hablaba, se le entregó un cuaderno y un lápiz: dibujó un piano de cola.
Entonces, se le acompañó hasta la capilla del centro, donde dejó a todos con la boca abierta cuando empezó a tocar. Se dijo que era un virtuoso capaz de interpretar piezas clásicas de memoria durante horas y su asistente social, Michael Camp, afirmó que «revivía» cuando tocaba.
